TUSC Presentations

                        The Unique Speaking Club
                                 (T.U.S.C.)
Speaking and listening are the parts of literacy that are most used in real life.  Every person is required to communicate in public in some way at some point.  A good public speaker is not born.  The only way to learn how to speak confidently is to learn the techniques, to observe other speakers, and to practice public speaking.
TUSC choices are:
Animal World                                           Poetry                         Book/Movie Talk
Biography                                                Scientist                      Musicology
Collector                                                 Teach a Lesson            Bee in My Bonnet
Commercial                                             Sports Reporter           Career/Job Reporter
Guinness Book of World Records             Speech                         Top 5
Jokes and Riddles                                    News Reporter             20 Questions

Karly had the T.U.S.C. job, "Teach a Lesson".  She recorded her lesson at home and showed it to the class on the smart board. It was interesting to see how she organized her step-by-step demonstration. She made it easy to follow and convinced us that we can also attempt to make slime.  Karly included the ingredients: Elmers glue, shaving cream, hand soap, food colouring, baking soda, and contact lens solution, which forms into a ball of slime. She added contact solution as needed, so it wouldn't be sticky.  What an interesting lesson!

Mack's TUSC job this week was SCIENTIST.  He mixed baking soda with dish detergent, food colouring, vinegar and water.  There definitely was a cool reaction when you mixed these ingredients together.  A chemical reaction between the vinegar and baking soda creates a gas called carbon dioxide.  Carbon dioxide is the same type of gas used to make the carbonation in sodas.

The reaction worked!

Kadence's TUSC job this week was COLLECTOR. She presented her rock collection for TUSC today.  There were a variety of colours, sizes, and formations.  It was an interesting presentation.  Thank you Kadence!

A male and female Painted Turtle

Cassady's presented her porcelain doll collection.
It was very interesting how they were handed down
from generation to generation.
This year so far we have had two T.U.S.C. presentations and they have been well prepared and informative.  Congratulations to all the presenters on their excellent work
Alissa presented Animal World and told us all about her Painted Turtles.  We learned a lot of interesting facts about turtles.

TUSC was super interesting!  Sabrina brought her Crested gecko to show us.  The natural yellow and black design on the gecko was beautiful.  She told us that if a gecko is overstressed or feels threatened its tail may drop off, but does eventually grow back.  It does this as a defense, so if something or someone grabs their tail they can get.

This week, the TUSC presentations were again very interesting.  Ethan made a Ninja ball for Scientist and Natalie taught us how to make a flower out of pipe cleaners.  All the presentations were interesting and the presenters kept the audience captivated.  Good job!

Ashlee's TUSC  presentation.  She is teaching us a lesson on how to make a personal size pizza.  Way to go Ashlee!
